I have ten years of experience creating simple, elegant and functional mechanical designs.

While building expertise one lesson at a time is a sure, but slow, method of developing design intuition, it can’t keep up with rapidly expanding frontiers of fabrication and computation technologies.

I dream of computational design - where design environments are two-way coupled to predictive numerical simulations that help users build intuition about a design space without fabricating and testing endless prototypes. This is a far-off goal - but to get there we’ll need to update, remake, or cast aside our familiar and comfortable design tools.
